PLDT 888 Weird and Misleading Promo
Today, I drove home thru EDSA and saw the big PLDT Billboard at Pioneer, Mandaluyong near Robinson’s Gateway. They’re now offering a somewhat anti-Globe product which you’ll get landline + dsl + free NDD for 888 pesos only. I got shocked and called PLDT hotline 171 immediately to get more info only to get frustrated.
First of all, the bandwidth is too, very, super duper slow. 88kbps only! What?! I think it’s better to use dial up at least no down time and no PLDT Slow Customer Service. I called the customer service and told them that the billboard is misleading but she told me “Now you know”. Can you imagine that? They’re blatantly fooling us.
One more fooling scam of PLDT. You’ll be charge additional P100 per month for the modem fee which makes the total monthly fee of P988.00. How could you use the internet service without a modem?
My conclusion? I’ll get the Globe DSL promo of 995 pesos per month, VAT included, with Globe landline with up to 368kbps internet service. Plus customer service is much better than PLDT’s customer service.

A lot of people are saying that Globe is worse than PLDT. Globe DSL is also misleading because what they really mean is that their speed can reach UP TO 368kbps. But it is more often a lot less than that. Plus, people say you get disconnected a lot from globe, or sometimes you get connected but you can’t access websites anyway. Globe also doesn’t have a line of their own, they just rent from PLDT. If you’re just on dial-up, the PLDT promo would probably be better since you can free up your landline while surfing the net. The speed would be faster than usual dial-up as well. If you have money to spend however, just get the PLDT DSL in addition to your landline.

I really can’t comment on the quality of the DSL line since different people have different experiences. Some may say that Globe is good, some may not agree. But what I would like to emphasize is that the ongoing misleading product promos of PLDT which makes people think that it’s like the Globe free landline promo but in reality, it’s not even up to par. They didn’t even published the speed in their ads.
384kbps is still 384kbps. You may get 50% only (192kbps) but you can’t get PLDT’s 88kbps higher than 88kbps. Your favorite YouTube site might not even run smoothly with any speed lower than 100kbps. When was the time I heard that 88kbps is broadband?

Yeah POOR customer service and PLDT sa akin. PLDT boni avenue branch.
Last November 2006, nag pa reconnect ako ng pldt line, i specified na residential line lang ang ibalik WAG na yung pldt VIBE at NDD because i don’t need them yet.
Nagka line uli ako early December 2006, which was good, mabilis.
Di ko ginamit ang NDD at VIBE at nung nagtry naman ako na gamitin just to check kung connected ba o hindi, hindi naman gumagana so i assumed na disconnected na nga yung VIBE at NDD.
I was surprised when i received the bill for december 7 to february 21 is P3,191.00 when it should be P1,891.18. di ko alam na chinacharge pa rin pala ako ng VIBE at NDD na dinaman gumaganana at pinatatanggal ko na nung umpisa pa lang dahil di ko kailangan. P1,299.82 ang sobrang amount na sinisingil.
Early february 2007, i called 171 (pldt hotline) and told me connected daw ang ndd at vibe ko. so pinadisconnect ko agad.
Then i went to the pldt office at mandaluyong and i explained everything. The customer service representative recommend me to pay only the residential charges only and not the vibe and ndd.
I didn’t pay yet because they haven’t given me any document to prove that its already taken care of.
Now feb. 22, i called 171 for billing updates, “sher” answered me and informed me that its still P3,191 and dial this to disconnect my pldt vibe and ndd, so ulit na naman?
What the customer service personel’s response surprised me. (i didn’t got her name - the one with long blond hair and tooth stains)
Sabi ng customer service personel:
a. Isa-isa lang ang request na pag bibigyan, ang dami ko daw ni request e (reconnect my residential, disconnect vibe and ndd - marami ba yun???)
b. Pagpapareconnect lang daw ng residential ang pinagbigyan
c. About diconnecting vibe and ndd, dapat daw ay ginawa ko sa ibang araw when the residential line is already connected.
So my question to her was still:
a. Why should i pay for those services na di naman nagamit at di gumagana?
Grrrr! kaasar.

im currently using a pldt dsl plan 999. medyo mahal nga lang ang bill ko monthly pero ok ang service.for me, maganda sana tong plan 999 kung wla ng kasamang monthly na 800+ sa rental ng landline. so all in all ang bill ko monthly nasa 1700 +. mahal sya. im planning to switch to globe’s promo kaya lang wala naman line ng globe sa qc. kaya bayantel na lang ako. papadisconnect ko na ang pldt ko bukas. sbi kasi 1200 lang ang bayantel wlang ibang charge and medyo mabilis raw kasi kaunti lang nagamit sa lines nila for now. not sure. just sharing…

I can’t thank you enough for informing us about this “weird slash misleading 888 plan” from PLDT. I am very interested about this promo since they started posting adverts (on newspapers/posters etcetera) and immediately called PLDT for information. And you know what, they never mentioned about the monthly modem rental nor the painstaking 88kbps speed. Com’on… @ 88kbps? You gotta be kidding…
Thank goodness i didn’t fall for that flirty call agent.
Even my existing 999 plan only provides a maximum of 512kbps when i started out at 768kbps connection. Bogus!

If youre used to a dial up, its not bad to add just a hundred or two over your current phone bill to get a dsl thats even just a little faster. Good deal na yon for me thats why im applying once i get back from my vacation.
As for Globe, customer service MIGHT seem good with globe but its all bogus. They try to tell you what you want to hear but its still messed up. Ive had a lot of problems with globe and i would rather choose the lesser of two evils, that being PLDT, than to get globe again.

good day!if you don’t know whats the different between dial-up and DSL if they say it is a DSL (DLS 888) it may have the advantage of DSL although it is just twice as the speed of dial-up. Using a dial-up will make you phone busy, while using dsl your phone can still be use without disconnecting to the internet. Also thinking of the fact that pldt is the largest telecommunication company in the philippines who still uses wire for connections still they might be better that others to provide internet like smart and globe cuz they just use antena. Imagine globe and smart are just using antenas, its just like a cellphone that sometimes may be out of signals or a television that sometimes cant receive signals, if they fail sometimes to send our text or we fail to call it is still more vulnerable for them to fail in providing a better internet access think that we uses thousand and millions of bits and bytes to open a single webpage. PLDT would still be better because they uses wire for their service and disconnection might less. and thinking those customer services that was a little masungit or impatient with customers, always remember that you are the customer or consumer if they find themselves a right to get angry or become impatient talking to you you may do the same cuz you are the one who’s paying for their service and their just being paid to do so.
thanks.

I actually called 171 last Wednesday to ask about PLDT Xtra Value Plan 888. Yes it was just 88 kbps but they offer free modem and installation until March 31, 2007 only. Here’s the catch, they are offering another promo, PLDT DSL Plan 990 with the same features (landline + DSL) with a speed of 384 kbps.
Another thing, do you know anyone who is in PLDT 888? You’ll be surprised since there are those who is on this plan and gets a whooping 1000 + kbps.
Check out this link:

Good for people who are getting 1000+ kbps but they’re only few lucky people and I’m pretty sure that it’s just a matter of time before PLDT limits that to 88kbps. When that time comes, it’s too late already to get out of the 24 months lock-in period.
As for the Plan 990 with 384kbps. They haven’t published anything so I really can’t say much about it. Probably it’s better to wait for their official announcements.

I have a Globelines landline subscription at my residence. A Globeline Broadband (GLBB) sales agent has been convincing us to avail of the GLBB and told us that it is faster than the PLDT DSL I’m currently using. I told him that I’m happy with my PLDT DSL. He was so makulit, so I made a deal with him that if it is OKAY to have a “TRIAL” connection of the GLBB, for a day or two, to compare the speed with my existing PLDT DSL, and if it is true that GLBB is faster, I will avail of the GLBB. A few days later, GLBB was activated on my Globelines phone. I immediately performed a speed test on that night and discovered that GLBB is very much slower compared to my existing PLDT DSL connection. The speed slowed down further during peak hours, say at around 7:30 to 8:00 in the evening. The speed during this time is just around 47kbps, slower than a dial-up. So slow that you can’t even open a web page.
I called the sales agent and informed him of the result. He promised to send a Globe technical guy to check our system. Two weeks have passed, with a number of unanswered text messages and phone calls, I finally was able to get in touch with him thru his cellphone and told him that their was no technical guy that went to check the system, and that the GLBB has not been used since it was activated because of speed problem. I told him that I wanted the GLBB removed/deactivated. He answered that I have to pay a disconnection fee of P 1,900+ and have to pay for the days the GLBB was activated. When I checked with Globelines customer service, I found out that an Application Form has to be filled-up before the GLBB is activated. No one in my household filled-up such Application Form. So I demanded a photocopy of the application form Globelines and was given a copy after two weeks of continous follow-up at their office.
Guess what I discovered!!!!!
“THE APPLICATION FORM FOR GLBB ACTIVATION HAS BEEN FORGED”
I am just wondering, “IS GLOBELINES THIS DESPERATE TO SELL THEIR GLBB SERVICES”.
I am now collecting documents to be used as evidence against the person(s), bussiness organization who made and benefited from this CRIMINAL ACT.
I will keep you updated of this case…..

PLDT is full of crap! I am now under Bullshit Plan 888. When I was applying, they told me that the speed is 128kbps. I was surprised! By just adding a hundred or two, I can get a decent connection + a phoneline I knew that it is not only 888, there are other things to pay. The bill came and it was about 1100, not bad. When I got connected, the speed was very fast, I got download speed that burst upto 50kBps. Average was 35kB. But after a week or so, the speed suddenly dropped to 80kbps ~ 10kBps. I called the customer support and they told me that the speed is really 88kbps only. But i told them that this wasn’t mentioned when I was applying and asking for details. Then they I asked me the speed that I am expecting. I said that I am expecting 128kbps because that was said when I was applying. The next day I called again and now their telling me that the 128kbps speed was only given under the promo period. Bullshit! What is this crap all about? No one ever mentioned about a promo. And come to think of it, a promo period lasting a week just to lure customers that even the customer doesn’t know about. SCAM!

PLDT’s ads are truly deceiving. We just subscribed a few days ago with PLDT’s plan Excite (1995) and we only get 106.6 kbps!!! That’s s__t!
I don’t know how can they afford to peddle such lies in their ads when in reality, whatever plan you get, the bandwidth is the same. Who says so??? well…their own people says so. When the tech came to install our modem he was surprised that we are subscribig under plan 1995 when he said that the bandwidth is the same as Plan 999.
Smart Bro is a lot better as they can provide 350 kbps (at least here in my area, Better Living Paranaque).
With PLDT, subscribe at your own risk. Wala raw nagsisi sa una!

This is an update of blog I posted last 11th of March.
I have already forwarded my complaint of the Globelines FORGERY to the NBI and the NTC for further investigation. The NTC has contacted me and I’m waiting for the hearing schedule. I will make a follow-up with the NBI within the week for an update. I will check with the NTC if I can invite my friend(s) from the media to attend the hearing coz I wanted the public to know about this SCAM.
Last week, the Globelines agent responsible for the FORGERY approached me and asked me to rescend from my complaint. I told him, NOO WAAYYYY.
The latest billing I received from Globelines includes two months charges for the Broadband services which was FRAUDULENTLY applied by a Globelines agent without the consent of the subscriber. I have no other choice but to pay since the billing already includes disconnection notice of the landline services. Now I have documents to support that Globelines benefited/profitted from this CRIMINAL ACT, these are the Globelines billing and the Official Receipt of the payment made.
With this, I now is considering to tap the services of a lawyer.

The offer plan 990 kind of good coz you a get a free landline plus a dsl connection with a speed of 384kbps. They said that they’ll just inform me if i can avail their promo since i am currently subscribed to their another plan that is pldt vibe plan 440. After reading the blogs from this site with people unsatisfied with the kinds services that pldt gives to their customer, i am having doubts to pursue my interest in applying for the plan..

Well, i think if you guys are dissatisfied with PLDT DSL services, you will all the more be disappointed with other DSL companies.
As per my experience, i’ve tried SkyDSL a few months ago due to curiosity about their ads about bursting speeds and quick service. I subscribed to their plan 899 which offers a speed of 384kbps. After my line was connected i started surfing, i noticed that the speed was not right so i tried speedtesting my bandwidth and found out that im only getting a measly 100 to 200+ kbps of internet speed. Thus, i immediately reported this concern of mine to their helpdesk and to my dismay, i was told that they are NOT offering committed speeds of 384kbps but only UP TO… 384! Which means they won’t be liable if the subscriber gets only 50 kbps, 70 kbps, 100 kbps of internet speeds because its only “UP TO….”. Worse, instead of apologizing for their misleading ads, the customer service representative even sounded so arrogant as if what Bayantel or SkyDSL is doing is right and i was the only dumb person in the world to have misunderstood their ad. So to my dismay, i scolded the customer service right there and then at the top of my voice, embarrassed her and slammed the phone to make her realize what she was doing. To see the ad of SkyDSL, please go to this link:
So guys, if you want to spare yourself from such a horrific experience, avoid those DSL or Broadband companies which offers “UP TO…so & so speeds” such as SkyDSL or Globe Broadband. THEY ARE PROVEN FLOPS!

Sorry for the omission. This is the SkyDSL link: http://www.skydsl.com.ph/2gives.html - Please see for yourselves if the ad says for the rate of Plan 899, you’ll get a committed speed of 384 kbps or is it only “UP TO”….384. If you happen to see the word “UP TO” then let me know.

Anyways my plan 899 are good 95 percent of the time, never had a downtime for more than 12 hours in 12 months…pag lumagpas ng 24 hours ang downtime free 500 pesos na kagad as long as you reported it. My speed right now while typing this -> If the image won’t show up then just copy and paste the url to your browser.

i encountered this blog because i was looking for PLDT’s hotline number. apparently 171 is only for PLDT subs.
misleading? i dont think so. what’s misleading about it? on the ads they offered DSL, landline and unlimitted NDD calls. Did the customer rep deny what’s on their ads?
look at t this way, you’ll get FREE NDD, continuous dsl (i’m not saying FAST. faster than DIAL-UP, and a phone line.
this promo is a steal when you rely so much on your landline. the DSL’s not fast but at least your phone’s not tied up.
btw i’m using a globe DSL paying 1800 a month for a 384kbps connection.
384kbps equal to 48kBps. yes it’s expensive. 2005 when we applied for DSL. back then this was CHEAP. now, i’m planning to downgrade from my existing plan, to their budget bundles which cost 990+ pesos. i just need to update my account with them.
and another thing. dont rely on speed tests.
if you have a plan 384kbps from whatever ISP, that’s your guaranteed connection from your PC to their NETWORK. it’s not “oh i have 384kbps connection, i should be able to download 48kB from my torrent or limewire.”
i’m posting these things to make others aware. not to offend others.

Another scam from pldt: An agent has been calling us many times trying to get my mom into subscribing to plan 888. When I finally got to talk to her, she told me that the speed is 188kbps. I then answered back, ‘Are you sure its 188 because i think its only 88kpbs’. She said that she would recheck, and guess what, she said that it really is only 88kbps. That sounded so fishy. If I didnt know all about their scam…
Come on, napakahirap ng buhay sa Pilipinas ngayon. It’s impossible that a company would give out such a very nice service for an eye-popping low price.

I tried to upgrade my DSL connection to 2MBps, eh nagkaproblem ako, akala ko di nila kaagad maaction-an, so they back my 768kbps dahil nagkakaproblem ako, in 24 hours lang nasolve nila problem ko at pagtingin ko sa bill eh very FAIR naman ang billings, with no extra charge, tama lang ung pagbibill nila at walang hidden charges. As a result, kahit talgang medyo problemado sa YouTube ung SkyDsl, ok lang kase parang barkada mo lang ang customer representatives nila, pwede kau mag-usap to settle ur problems at hindi sila nanloloko ng mga customers. Pag hindi kaya ng Bayantel, they telling the truth and they not offering u such add-ons para lalo kang maghirap sa kakabayad ng Phone Bill mo.

pldt and globe are both scams, i have the globe speak and surf, from the 1st time i got it, it brought nothing but problems, poor phone service and poor internet service too. the internet was performing well for the first month but died down in the succeeding months. plus the incompetent customer service who just delays you and when you get another agent on the line he says the exact opposite thing why we have the problem. when i got to the globe business center they showed me a map of my area and saw that my house is outside their service vicinity but still they continue marketing here. we demanded for a refund and have the service cut of without paying termination fee. they said they’d call after a week or two, well guess what no one ever did. they always say blah blah blah in the next 24 to 48 hours but after that no action. can ntc do anything about this. their services are crap

I hope PLDT get sued for falsely advertising their product and fooling their subscriber. I should say “SCAMMING” their subscriber. Their flyers and posters in their business office are blatantly showing that PLAN 888 will have a speed of “8X” the speed of dial-up connection. So in layman’s term approximate speed will be 8 x 56k(dial-up modem speed), from 356 to 448kbps. Previously they said it is only at 88kbps…my F**S** an 88kbps cannot be considered a dsl speed. Might as well be an ISDN, so they have replaced it with a new false ads saying 8x the speed of dial-up. Maybe what they have on their mind was a dial-up modem with a speed of 11kbps. Hope someone out their sue pldt for this hulabaloo, a class suit would be nice.

I just have to agree with the poor service of Globelines. I’ve also experienced a lot of frustrations with them and I’m just on my way of terminating my contract with them. Ever since my application period, it took me 1 month to get my line activated even after paying the 995 downpayment. But after that, I find their broadband service really poor.. I subscribed to their Speak & Surf (ZTE broadband) and to rate, I can say that I’ve only used their broadband service properly 60% of the time.. So I’ll just end up using dial up internet since I have to bring my work home. Their customer service would seem great but it’s all fake promises. No one would call you back even after reporting an incident. If ever anyone would call you, that would be after a month. And lastly, until now, the 995 downpayment has never been reflected in my bills. It so happened that the sales person didn’t gave me an OR when I paid the 995 downpayment that I’m having a really hard time trying to recover my payment and I lost his contact number. If you saw their latest tv ad about Globe service, it’s all b*@&($#IT. Their centralized system is really a mess. They can’t even track the sales person responsible for my application.
So to all those who plan to get a Speak & Surf, You’ll have to aplly it directly from Globe Business Center and not from Sales agent that you’ll see anywhere. But in terms of their service, good luck. You might just get hypertension. I believe that if Globe is as popular as PLDT, the number of complaints they’ll get would be the same with PLDT.
From reading these blogs, I guess I’ll be visiting a Bayantel center.

Go for Eastern Telecoms. If you requested for 256kbps, you get 256kbps. Max 1Mbps.

Talagang ganon ang mga residential dsl. Mura e kaya marami tayong nagse share sa 1 fast connection. If you really need the speed and the reliability, maybe you can try to subscribe for a business plan dsl. For us who are still experiencing fast connections, chances are that our main connection is not yet saturated.

pldt plan 1299 - 1 yr lock in
pldt plan 990 - 2 yrs lock in
in fairness ok ang pldt service sa akin. sa isang taon e 2 or 3 lang sya nawalan ng connection. at yung up to 512Kpbs e umaabot sa 1Mpbs most of the time.

PLDT sucks!!!
Starting the day we apply, their service sucks na.
WE waited more than a week for our application to be approved.
And then when they came to our house to install the phone & DSL, mali yung
address namin dun sa service order nla. I show them our copy of the application to prove na tama yung address namin dun. So somebody fr PLDT made a mistake. We waited again another week for them to correct that mistake.
We did not recieve any bill ksi they mix up our billing address once again.
We just recieve a call from them saying our 1st bill for june is already overdue since july 7. Because we did not recieve any bill from them I called 171 to verify our billing address. Mali na naman yung address namin dun which we corrected na before they install the phone and the DSL. So i told the agent I talk to na palitan yung address namin ksi di nga tama yun pero wala pa rin. When we went to their business ofc the next day hindi pa rin na correct address namin.
Ito pa. WE upgraded our DSL fr. plan 1299 to plan experience which has a speed of 1Mbps. The agent we talk on the phone told us that it will only take 3-5 days for the upgrade to take effect.
Ano ka? Inabot ng 3 weeks mahigit. Almost everyday kmi tumatawg to check on our upgrade. It’s the same bullshit they gave us every time we call. Until nag sawa ako sa kakatawag. kung ano-ano sinasabi ng mga agent just to get us off the phone.
We have to go to their ofc pa to pay since wala nga kaming na recieve na bill. We asked for a print out nag actual bill namin
We discover that PLDT has been charging us with the upgrade khit di pa ito nag take effect. Nag start ung billing nla sa upgrade namin nung june 20, 2008 pero nag take effect yung 1 Mbps july 6 na ksi daw june 20 daw yung date ng s.o.
Walang kwenta ung Mga agents nila sa 171. Tinawag pa nilang customer service yung. Maybe they dont know the meaning of the word.

SOBRA! nagpareconnect kame ng phone kasi naputol, after a month wala pa din(see how bad their service is) then we saw the broadband thing nga PLAN 888, sinubukan namin pakabit, ayun kinabit nga after a week… tapos after a month dumating bill namin for two connections… kinabit din daw nila yun pinareconnect naming phone. so i went berserk to their PLDT main office. i even shouted at their dumb supervisor, pinipilit kasi na dapat bayaran ko daw yun. bobo ba siya? one month ko ng pinapareconnect yun tapos irereconnect kung kelan gusto? i was angry kasi di man lang nagbigay ng notice na nakabit na pala… malalaman mo na lang na connected kapag billing na… how dumb di ba? how irresponsible on their part. simusumpa ko talaga service ng PLDT! BULOK!!!!!!

i’m glad i found this thread.
hinahanap ko sana ung promo ng PLDT na P999 for the combined landline and DSL e. ksi naka subscribe ako ngayon dun sa 800+ na landline at 999 na DSL dati and i’m trying to cut back on expenses.
di naman gaanong masma experience ko sa PLDT reps but i wouldn’t say that they are the best of people. when i got my DSL the first time, it kept on disconnecting. i called them up, tapos pina-delete cookies ako nung rep.
natatawa ko but i went along with her on how to delete cookies. all the while alam ko naman na di gagana un dahil connection ang prob ko at di ung websites na pinupuntahan ko. un lang troubleshooting na alam nya so i let it go and just waited rather than bothering to call them up again. ayun, bumalik naman si internet, buti na lng magaling ung PC ko.
anyway, right now we get disconnected a lot and there’s a time of day when the connection is soooo slow until you can’t get anything anymore.
i think our government should be more protective of the “consumer’s rights”, ksi totoo naman na we shouldn’t be paying for something we didn’t use. at computerized na ngayon so double subscriptions should be verified first with customers whether it was done on purpose or not para at least, clear on both sides na ito po ung ipapakabit nyo sure ka na ba? ganun!
