iPhone Modified Keyboard

November 27, 2009

I’ve been using the iPhone 3G for months and it’s really hard to get used to the standard keyboard. I tried to look for alternative keyboard layout and I found ikeyex keyboard developed by KennyTM. The tool can be only installed in jailbroken iPhones. You can download the latest release from his site which is “hk.kennytm.iKeyEx3-0.1-99j.deb” and make sure to also download “hk.kennytm.5RowQWERTY-0.1-99h.deb”. I’ll be including my own keyboard layout and feel free to use it.

How to install a deb file.

1. Go to cydia and download OpenSSH. After installing the file, restart your device.

2. Download WINSCP .

3. Check your Wifi IP address in your iPhone by going to Settings>General>WIFI>IP

4. Load winscp and input your iPhone’s IP address. User: root Password: alpine

5. After successful connection winscp will show your iPhone files and directories. Copy the 2 ikeyex files anywhere in the iPhone.

6. Load the console window and type dpkg -i hk.kennytm.iKeyEx3-0.1-99j.deb. After finishing the install type dpkg -i hk.kennytm.5RowQWERTY-0.1-99h.deb.

7. Respring your iPhone

8. Go to settings and you will see a new option.

9. Set the keyboard you want. (You’ll be able to use the 5 Row QWERTY Keyboard by KennyTM)

If you want to install my personal keyboard layout:

1. Download the file here

2. Step 1-6.

3. Extract the rar file and make sure it’s 5Row.keyboard folder when extracted.

4. Copy the folder in your iPhone – /Library/iKeyEx/Keyboards

5. Respring your device

6. Mix keyboard in ikeyex settings and you will see a keyboard named 5Row.

7. Add the keyboard layout.

8.Respring your device.

It should show like these.
